Stargazing Adventure

Saturn

This workshop is a hands-on introductory astronomy program that is open to both Brownie (not recommended for 1st graders) and Junior Scouts. The evening sky will be examined using Dalyn's Celestron 8" Schmidt-Cassegrain and Meade 4" Maksutov-Cassegrain telescopes. Each participant will

  • make a working telescope
  • learn about different types of telescope optics
  • learn to read a star map (one you keep!)
  • identify constellations
  • learn the legends behind the star's names
  • discover how ancient people used stars for navigation
  • view the stars and/or planets using high-powered telescopes (weather permitting)

JupiterThe dates for each Stargazing Adventure are chosen to optimize the sky viewing. Girls must register as part of a troop; no individual registrations are accepted. Troop chaperones (i.e. drivers) may observe while the girls are working on their inside projects. Please be aware, seating for adults is limited.

In the event of bad weather, the workshop will be held as scheduled; there are no "weather" refunds. The girls will complete all inside activities and you will have an opportunity attend a free make-up viewing session at a later date which will be announced at the workshop.Moon

There is no badge or Try-It is provided at this workshop.
